Video Update: Au Sable River Property Owners Association Cedar Planting Program on Au Sable and Manistee Rivers

In 2014, TSF made a grant to Au Sable River Property Owners Association to support their long term effort, through Cedars for the Au Sable, to plant northern white-cedars along the Au Sable and Manistee Rivers in Michigan. This volunteer-driven project has planted nearly 20,000 native northern-white cedars on private and public land over the last 18 years.

The northern white-cedars provide shade to maintain the cold water fishery, protection for fish, increased amounts of large woody debris in the water, and soil stabilization at the river bank.

There’s a really well done video available at AuSable Trout that describes the planting program.
